What to Expect

What to Expect From Your Visit

Your therapist will begin by gaining an understanding of your story and learning about the factors that brought you to them.

If relevant to your case, please bring any medical letters, scan reports, or surgical discharge summaries with you.

They will inquire about your activity levels both before and after the onset of pain, as well as your overall activity levels. Understanding this history is crucial for providing effective care.

Where relevant, they will want to know about you, your job demands, family demands, sleep quality, stress levels – all of this gives a good understanding of your personal landscape so they can deliver a bespoke management plan.

They will need to ask about your past medical history such as major surgeries, medications, other muscular or skeletal problems, and more serious medical history – this helps the therapist to understand the body of the person in front of them.

It’s best to come wearing clothing that is easy to move in and in some cases, the therapist may ask that you remove your outer top or bottom layers so they can perform an adequate assessment. The practice can provide shorts and towels to protect modesty.

Remember, your road to recovery is a collaborative process. Your clinician will discuss their assessment findings with you and agree on a treatment plan with you, although this may change as you respond to treatment.

The more information and willingness to be an active part of your management, the better your outcome will be.
